Omote features a complex real-time face mapping. It takes 2 hours of prepping the face by putting on make up and the little dots for the camera to map the face. The artist and engineers wrote the program from scratch as this is very new.




Elixir: The video organism of Pipilotti Rist
The installation features a welcoming interior that shows off a video that consists of close up bright colours that composed human body and fruits that gives a dreamy look. Her work talks about the human body, sexuality and gender roles.

Macchina del Tempo

My first idea was to have the clothes that represent the respective generations to be projected on the audiences that would be wearing a white cloth. The audiences can change the clothes accordingly and have fun. In technical part, I intended to use Kinect to detect the body and motion and html for clothing.


Paper Dolls

This installation consists of cutout of clothing that represents the era that they belong to. A projection of texture and colours are determined by knobs that symbolises the personal taste from the audiences.


Struttura

Struttura involves the audience to be immersed in a display of texture close ups of the different textiles and colours from each generation.




What I learned?

From reading and exploring the net for information about all the generations in term of fashion, I find that it really just depends of personal taste and passion. I can still see groups of young people that are still interested in the later generation's fashion trend for example, vintage fashion is still acceptable but they are given fresh vibe to fit in modern look. Fashion are used as a symbol or tool to visualize a society but will never stop changing and grow with new explorations of techniques and ideas from fresh new talents. Thus, I feel that fashion in a sense is something of use to really show a person's personality or state of mind.



Generation X, also known for the term "forgotten generation" is the dubbed the parents of the digital age and might have more influence towards the younger generation. Their style are influenced by the mass media and go with the concept of casualness and simplicity. Gender differences in terms of clothing are often minimized. Talking about the shoulder pads during the 80's especially to women, it is a statement of power and higher status as emerging realization of equality between men and women arise. Gen X also follows the pop icons of their time. For example, Doc Martens influenced by the Nirvana band, Ray Ban glasses as Tom Cruise popularized them and the Miami Vice look.



Generation Y who area also known as the millennials are young and fashionable. They don't mind spending their money on full price online retailers and mix and match their wardrobe with cheap clothing. For example, pairing that cheap jacket with that nice dress, as said by Jenna Bush Hager.
Although the older ones are still brand loyal, the younger ones tend to buy from a larger assortment of brands.

Generation Z often dubbed as the screen junkies and spoilt in current state of technology but there are more to this generation especially in the fashion industry. Being hyper aware of the stereotypes of the millennials , they want to be known for their hard work and perseverance offline. From more reading, they are a practical pragmatist and while they are labeled an "entrepreneurial generation" a majority of them are risk-averse, practical and pragmatic. Thus their clothing choices. They are not brand loyal and often go for quality or value.

Defining their fashion trend would also look upon their pop culture icons like Victoria Beckham and Taylor Swift. There are also internet icons that are setting trends and changing the traditional norm like Grace Neutral and Zoella.


That includes body modifications, coloured hairs (bright and pastel colours), non-retail clothes, etc
They are not afraid to express themselves loud and clear.
